This Week in Band: 10/23/23

Good Evening, Rams,

IT IS OUR LAST WEEK OF MARCHING BAND REHEARALS AND THE WEEK OF MPA!!! Here is what this week’s TWIB will be covering:

  • Thank you, Marching Festival Staff!
  • All-County Band
  • Tri-M Music Honor Society
  • Potential Local Fox News Event
  • Seminole Away Game
  • Marching MPA
  • Playoff Football

Thank you, Marching Festival Staff!

A HUUUUUGE thank you goes out to all of the parents, friends, and families that helped to make this past Saturday’s Dede Schaffner Seminole Marching Band Festival event at Lake Mary an enormous success! We have received nothing but glowing reports on the quality of the hospitality offered to our fellow SCPS band families and friends, not to mention the community VIPs in attendance. Everyone in that stadium left with a positive impression of the quality of our band family here at Lake Mary. I was also thrilled with our band’s performance and the reaction we got from the audience! I am so thankful to be here as part of this organization!

Seminole County All-County Band

Auditions for the Seminole All-County Band will be on Wednesday, November 15, here at Lake Mary HS. Students who want to audition for this honor band must submit the Student Participation Agreement to Mr. Langston by Thursday, October 26.

Tri-M National Music Honor Society

Tri-M is a National Association for Music Education (NAfME) program that focuses on creating future leaders in music education and advocacy and recognizes students who have gone above and beyond both academically and musically. If music students would like to apply for this organization, they must submit their completed applications to Mr. Langston by Thursday, October 26.

Potential Local Fox News Event

There might be an opportunity for band students to participate in an event on Friday morning before school that will be featured on the local Fox News channel, highlighting the game versus Seminole HS. Details have yet to be made clear, so stay tuned for updates.

FBA Marching MPA

This year’s Marching Band Music Performance Assessment will be on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Lake Brantley HS. Music Performance Assessments are the musical world’s version of “standardized testing .” Ensemble performances are rated based on a set of well-established standards meant to compliment the positive aspects of performance, critique essential aspects of the performance, and then provide direction on improving upon those points of critique. This performance is critical, and attending and performing is worth a large grade for the 2nd quarter.

Lake Mary’s performance time will be at 6:35 PM. Tickets for this event can be ordered via Teach Tix at the following link:

Tickets will only be sold digitally with digital payment, not with cash. The QR code to purchase tickets will be available on-site at Lake Brantley on the event day.

Itinerary (subject to change):

  • 8 AM-10 AM: Marching Rehearsal, North Practice Field
  • 3:30 PM: Call Time, Band Room
  • 4:00 PM: Inspection
  • 4:30 PM: Board busses
  • 5:30 PM: Arrive @ LBHS
  • 6:00 PM: Enter Warm-up
  • 6:35 PM: MPA Performance

Our MPA performance will close out our marching rehearsal season. Therefore, there will not be marching band rehearsals on Tuesday or Thursday of next week. On Friday, we will have our standard continuity rehearsal for our trip to play at the away game at Mainland on November 3, our final halftime show of the year.

Playoff Football

It is apparent that the LMHS varsity football team will be competing in the playoffs in the coming weeks. The Marching Rams will do everything in our power to support our team in its playoff run. This participation will include performing in the stands but not performing the halftime show. More details on how this will work will be shared when more is known about the location of the first playoff game.

Thank you all so much for a fantastic marching season! Now, let’s close it out with an outstanding MPA performance and a thorough thrashing of the Seminole football team! Have a great week!

Mr. Langston
