This Week in Band: 2/10/25

Good Evening,

 

This week continues a very busy February. Before we look at this week, I want to thank everyone involved with our participation in Saturday’s Mascot Games event. It is incredible to watch how people come together with a unified vision of providing our students with the best musical experience. Sometimes, this means cooking and selling concessions to help raise money, moving podiums or water coolers to support the marching band, or taking meetings or corresponding with outside organizations to solicit grants and donations. I am so fortunate to be supported by such a vibrant booster organization!

 

This week is a big week for LMHS band students. On Thursday, both jazz bands will perform at the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) Jazz Band Music Performance Assessments (MPAs) at Hagerty HS. At this event, bands play for a panel of judges and receive ratings based on their performance. Jazz Band II performs at 11 AM (Previously 10:30 AM), and Jazz Band I performs at 4:30 PM. Performances are free and open to the public.

 

Participating students will perform at the FBA Solo & Ensemble MPA on Friday and Saturday of this week. This event entails students performing a solo or small group performance for a single judge and receiving a rating. Each event has a unique performance day and time, so there will not be a bus for this event. Each student is responsible for getting to the event. Students should dress professionally and arrive early enough to warm up and find their performance area. More details about this event will be sent out later this week.

 

As the Jazz MPA is on Thursday, the Wind Ensemble rehearsal will take place on Tuesday from 5-6:30 PM after the Symphonic Band rehearsal.

 

Next week is also an irregular week. Both bands will rehearse on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in preparation for their Pre-MPA performance in the LMHS Auditorium on Feb. 20 at 7 PM. There will also be a spaghetti dinner prior to the Pre-MPA Concert, so be on the lookout for details about that very soon!

  • Symphonic Band Rehearsal, 2:45-4:30 PM
  • Wind Ensemble Rehearsal, 5-6:30 PM

Thursday, 2/13/25

  • Jazz MPA @ Hagerty HS
    • Jazz Band leaves for Hagerty at 9 AM, returns to LMHS by 6 PM
      • Students who drive may drive themselves to this event.
    • Jazz Band II performs at 11:00 AM (updated time… previously 10:30 AM)
    • Jazz Band I performs at 4:30 PM

Friday-Saturday, 2/14-15/25

  • Solo & Ensemble MPA @ Hagerty HS
    • Participating students have assigned performance times spread out over the 2 days.
    • Students are responsible for getting there and being picked up. There are no buses for this event.

Monday, 2/17/25

  • Presidents Day, No School!

Wednesday, 2/19/25

  • Symphonic Band Rehearsal, 2:30-4:00 PM
  • Wind Ensemble Rehearsal, 4:30-6:00 PM

Thursday, 2/20/25

  • Pre-MPA Performance, 7 PM, LMHS Auditorium
    • Spaghetti Dinner before the concert…details to follow.
